2d12 · 2 separate 12-sided dice
Two D12s can choose a month and a second twelve-entry detail, or produce a 2d12 total for a game rule. A calendar is a particularly easy way to see why the individual faces can matter more than their sum.
Number January through December as 1–12 and prepare a separate twelve-entry event table. The example picks month eight, August, and event row three. Keeping the dice labeled makes the date-related choice clear.
Raw sum8 + 3 = 11
Adding the two faces gives a centered total that starts at 2. It is not a uniform choice among twenty-four clock hours. For that job, use a D24 and agree on the conversion to a 00–23 clock.
