3d20 · 3 separate 20-sided dice
A three-die D20 tray is useful for three separately labeled checks or a rule that explicitly adds 3d20. Assigning a character to each position keeps one good result from accidentally standing in for the whole group.
Imagine three checks that each require a raw result of at least 12, without modifiers or automatic effects. The worked faces 14,7, and 19 meet, miss, and meet that threshold respectively. Their sum does not resolve those three checks.
Raw sum14 + 7 + 19 = 40
When the characters have different bonuses, apply each bonus to its own face. Combining all three dice and all three bonuses would produce a different calculation. Shared trays stay useful when the labels keep the procedures distinct.
