Online Dice
1d20 · one choice from 20 outcomes
A D20 is familiar from checks, attacks, and saving throws in many RPGs. Read its face, apply the modifier your rule requests, and compare the result with the target. Sometimes the scene becomes heroic; sometimes the die simply shows 7.

Suppose a check needs a total of at least 15 and your modifier is +3. A raw 12 becomes 15 and meets that target. Without any special automatic-success rule, raw results 12–20 succeed: nine faces out of twenty, or 45%.
A natural 20 is the unmodified die result. A roll of 17 plus a +3 bonus totals 20 but is not a natural 20. Whether natural 1 or 20 has a special effect depends on the game and the kind of roll.
Use it for a D20-based check or a twenty-entry random table. To resolve a check, read the raw die, apply the modifier the rule specifies, and compare the adjusted result with the required target.
For advantage or disadvantage, roll two D20s and keep the higher or lower individual result when the rule calls for it. Do not use their sum. The game-specific D&D page provides presets for that procedure.
The average raw face is 10.5. A modifier changes the target comparison, while the chance of any particular unmodified face remains one out of twenty in the standard model.
