Online Dice
1d8 · one choice from 8 outcomes
A D8 supplies 1 through 8 for damage expressions, small tables, and choices with room for diagonals. It is a familiar gaming die with a particularly tidy second job as an eight-point compass.

Label north, northeast, east, southeast, south, southwest, west, and northwest as 1–8. A 4 selects southeast. All eight directions have a 12.5% chance, provided each occupies one row.
Use it for a rule that calls for d8 damage, a direction including diagonals, or a list of eight possible discoveries. The page supplies the numbers; your game decides what to add and how to apply the result.
One D8 has an average of 4.5. Two D4s reach the same maximum of 8, but start at 2 and average 5. Use the expression the rule requests rather than swapping them by maximum alone.
A result of 8 on a damage die does not automatically mean a critical hit. Critical-hit rules belong to the game and usually depend on a different roll or procedure. Keep the check and the damage roll separate.
The mean is 4.5 across many rolls. A compass point on the diagonal gets the same weight as a cardinal direction when all eight points have one entry.
